Cristina Costa

Cristina Costa, MD, MPH, is a Consultant Doctor in Public Health with a background in infectious diseases, infection prevention and control, epidemic intelligence, project management and health planning. She holds a Master’s degree in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and is currently a PhD candidate in Epidemiology at the National School of Public Health (ENSP-NOVA). From 2022 to 2023, she served as Coordinator of the Infection Control Committee at the Portuguese National Institute for Medical Emergency (INEM). She is a member of the College of Public Health Medical Specialty (Saúde Pública), and the College for the Competency on Infection Control and Rational Use of Antibiotics (Competência em Controlo de Infeção e Uso Racional de Antibióticos) of the Portuguese Medical Association (Ordem dos Médicos). She is a European Committee on Infection Control (EUCIC) trainee. She has participated in national and international research projects funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), the European Commission, and the COST Association, particularly in the fields of impact evaluation and systems thinking. Since 2024, she has been working at the Department of Health Promotion and Non-Communicable Disease Prevention at the Portuguese National Institute of Health (INSA), with a focus on Health Impact Assessment, health policy research, and the evaluation of public health programs and plans. She currently coordinates the Technical Working Group for the evaluation of the Portuguese National Health Plan (Plano Nacional de Saúde 2030) at INSA. She is also an invited lecturer in health evaluation at the University of Porto and serves as a scientific reviewer for Acta Médica Portuguesa. She is an active member of the Portuguese Association of Public Health Doctors (ANMSP), the European Public Health Association (EUPHA), and the European Evaluation Society (EES). Throughout her career, she has collaborated with various national and international institutions through both professional and continuing education initiatives, including EUPHA, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
